Darren Nicholson Band is a group of Appalachian musicians who have common respect for and love of American acoustic music. There are Grammy-nominees and award-winning musicians in this band, and the members each have long track with countless performances on the Grand Ole Opry.
They are known for creatively blending Bluegrass, Folk, Gospel, Rockabilly and Swing, into a new American acoustic music experience. Darren Nicholson is a highly sought after mandolin player, singer, and session musician. Darren's also a full time, founding member of Balsam Range. Darren is an 11 time IBMA Award Winner.
Originally, from Archdale, N.C., Brian Hilligoss was singing on the Grand Ole Opry by the time he was twenty-one, sharing the stage with Roy Acuff, Porter Wagoner, Connie Smith, and performing stand-up comedy with his friend and mentor, Minnie Pearl.
Call it Americana, bluegrass-adjacent or country music with acoustic instruments, but for sure, Brian is a well-honed singer-songwriter inspired by the likes of Darrell Scott, Rodney Crowell, Nanci Griffith and uncle, Mountain John. A well-studied, experienced stage performer and storyteller, Brian “brings the audience into his songs and repartee in such a way that leaves folks feeling better for being there.” He is honored to be sharing space with Darren Nicholson and mates.
